چکیده

The direct current potential drop (DCPD) technique may be used in crack propagation tests to measure the growth rate (CGR). Potential probes attached specimen allow variation of length estimated. In this research, DCPD using one single probe was applied solid bar specimens (i.e., without any initial notch or crack) subjected low-cycle fatigue testing a simulated pressurized water reactor (PWR) environment. This particular analysis had two associated difficulties, first being fact that initiation sites are not known beforehand, and second consisting experimental difficulties conditioning factors with simulation PWR Nine were tested failure under different strain amplitudes frequencies, while also measuring corresponding signal during process. It observed multiple cracks detected by measurements. Moreover, as continued, became dominant progressed cause failure. allowed average CGR Finally, obtained CGRs validated comparing them derived from striation spacing measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) literature values gathered NUREG/CR-6909 document.

A Multiple Specimen Tust Technique To Determine Fatigue Crack Growth Rates for Conditions

Objective: To develop an experimental technique whereby fatigue properties of newly developed hlgher strength steels, as are critical to deep water structural concepts, can be more rapidly and efficiently evaluated, and to use the technique to determine the influence of steel composition and microstructure potential and stress ratio on crack propagation behavior of these steels in natural seawa...

Fatigue Crack Growth Rates in Equine Cortical Bone

INTRODUCTION Stress fractures are common in athletes, military recruits, and Thoroughbred racehorses, and may occur as hip fractures in the elderly. All of these injuries, to some extent, depend upon the propagation of fatigue cracks. Therefore, it is important to characterize the rates at which fatigue cracks grow and how microstructural differences found in cortical bone influence the crack g...

Ionic Inhibition of Environmental Fatigue Crack Growth in 7075-t6

The objective of this study is to quantify and understand the effectiveness of a hexavalent chrome replacement ion to inhibit environmentally assisted fatigue crack propagation (EFCP) in high strength aluminum alloys. Because of dynamic-cyclic stress (or strain) loading, fatigue degradation occurs at stress levels considerably lower than the tensile or yield strength; degradation is exacerbated...

Prediction of crack growth in a nickel-based superalloy under fatigue-oxidation conditions

Prediction of oxidation-assisted crack growth has been carried out for a nickel-based superalloy at elevated temperature based on finite element analyses of oxygen diffusion, coupled with viscoplastic deformation, near a fatigue crack tip. The material constitutive behaviour, implemented in the finite element code ABAQUS via a user-defined material subroutine (UMAT), was described by a unified ...
